Executive Summary
The National Sustainable Mobility Policy was published in April 2022. The Policy sets out a strategic framework to 2030 for active travel (walking and cycling) and public transport journeys to help Ireland meet its climate obligations. The SMP is accompanied by an Action Plan to 2025 detailing 91 actions to support the achievement of key sustainable mobility targets further defined in the Climate Action Plan 2023. These key Climate Action Plan targets are a 50% increase in daily active travel journeys, a 130% increase in daily public transport journeys, and a 20% reduction in total vehicle kilometres travelled by 2030.
sections set out the progress that has been made on policy developments since the publication of the SMP in the areas of shared mobility, demand management, public engagement and road safety. Finally, the report considers the impact of policy measures taken to date, and the steps to be taken to develop a second Action Plan covering the remaining years of the SMP. Throughout the report, case studies provide examples of specific initiatives to support the rollout of sustainable mobility measures across the country.
