I call on the Minister of Education and Skills to re-instate the grant to the Primary School Library Service. The decision to cut this grant in 2009 is certainly not reflective of the philosophy enshrined in the new primary school curriculum where it states that “the library is not only valuable, it is essential”. The complete lack of funding at present means no new books can be bought. It is vital this cut is reversed. 4.52 euro for each child is a small amount to invest in our Smarter Economy Policy which the present government is supposed to be promoting. It is important that Public Libraries continue to support schools in the work that they do. This is clearly a time when such skills should be developed, as there is a greater need than ever for an educated, informed and information literate population.

I call on Meath County Council to explain the water rate charging procedure and to examine how best the process could be monitored. This follows several complaints from consumers (both commercial and domestic) who have been invoiced for water charges and their bills appear to be at variance with their consumption levels. In rural areas domestic holding entitlements are 89 cubic metres free per six month period. The Commercial Water Consumption Charge rate is €1.42 per cubic metre while the Waste Water Consumption charge is at a rate of €1.23 per cubic metre. I’d like clarification on the position with regard to leaks which may occur during a half year period.
